Best Backpacking Tents to Bring on Your Next Trip

Light, easy to assemble, and durable; these are the qualities of the best backpacking tents.

My son Jarret and I do a lot of camping so that we can bond as father and son, and, hopefully, as men and even human beings. Since I prioritize my relationship with my son, it's important that I own one of the best backpacking tents.

I'm also finally ready to look for love after the divorce, so having a tent that sets the right mood and impresses is very important to me. Especially since I'm a demisexual, someone who only experiences sexual attraction after establishing an emotional connection.

I put myself out there in all of my relationships, whether it be with my son Jarret or with a potential romantic partner. I am willing to be hurt; but not by the elements! That's why I bought one of the best backpacking tents.

Copper Spur HV UL Tent by Big Agnes

At roughly 3 lbs, the Big Agnes Cooper Spur is one of the best backpacking tents around. This ultralight tent can withstand the elements, has two large doors for entering, and did I mention that this double wall tent is only 3lbs?! That leaves a lot of room for freeze dried backpacking meals or ingredients for the best tinfoil camping recipes.

Hubba Hubba NX by MSR

Made from ripstop nylon, the MSR Hubba Hubba NX can withstand wind and rain, which makes it one of the wet weather camping essentials. It provides a lot of space on the inside for two hikers. Like me and Jarret! Or me and a potential partner! And it only weighs 3 lbs 12 oz!

Dagger 2P Ultralight Roomy Backpacking Tent by Nemo

This ultralight two-person tent weighs 2lbs and 5ozs. I've bought bags of trail mix that weigh more than that!  That makes this one of the best backpacking tents. Plus, it's got two vestibules for gear, which is also good if your stuff gets a little wet so that it doesn't contaminate the rest of the tent. This a great tent for Jarret to tell me what he wants to be when he grows up, or for me to tell someone how having a son helped me become a grown up.

Tungsten 2P UL by Marmot

The Marmot Tungsten may be 4lbs and 13oz, but its price and size make it one of the best backpacking tents. Two doors and vestibules make this an easy to navigate tent. And a zipper that opens with one hand means you can come in and out while holding your snacks or while making out with your date (if I'm lucky!). Forests are very romantic! The tent may not be some of the most luxurious glamping gear, but it works for my needs.

2 Person 3 Season Tent by Mountainsmith Morrison

The Mountainsmith Morrison 2 Person 3 Season Tent is one of the best backpacking tents for tall people because its peak height is 43 inches. That makes it heavier; it weighs 4.88lbs. But you get what you pay for, which is comparatively not a lot. This is an affordable tent with a large interior space. Sometimes I have to ration my meals and make my hygienic purchases at dollar stores if I want to make a bigger purchase, but this isn't one of those items.

Grand Mesa Tent 2 Person Camping Tent by Kelty

At 3 pounds and 14 oz, this is one of the best backpacking tents, especially for the price! It's a big space for one and just fine for two. It also has a window for ventilation. That window would be a real romantic place to watch the sunrise, or a great place to connect with Jarret over a beer (I let him drink if I'm supervising) while discussing how we feel compared to the vastness of the universe (it would make Jarret uncomfortable because he has a fear of feeling insignificant).

Zion 2P Two Person Lightweight Tent by Paria Outdoor Products

At 3lbs 15oz, this is a lightweight tent with two doors, four mesh pockets, and a gear loft. It's also durable because it's made out of ripstop silnylon. All those pockets make it perfect for storing snacks for Jarret, or flowers for romance. Look, I have spent a lot of money on camping equipment because of Jarret! I can't not use it for romance; I'm in too deep!

Bryce 2P Two Person Ultralight Tent by Paria Outdoor Products

At 3.7 oz, the Bryce two-person ultralight tent is easy to assemble and with ample room. The interior is big enough that you won't mind that it has only one door. And the tent keeps condensation to a minimum. At under $200, this tent is also on the more affordable end of the tent spectrum. That means I can spend more money on camping accouterments.

Personal Bivy Tent by Winterial

At 3lbs 3oz, this one person tent is easy to assemble, roomy, and well ventilated. It has a full rain fly for worse weather. Its affordable price makes this one of the best backpacking tents. It'd work great for Jarret because he doesn't want to be in the same tent as me. It could get romantic, though, if my partner invites me into the tent with her.

The Lonosphere 1 Man Dome Tent by SnugPak

At 2.5 lbs, this tent by SnugPak is one of the best backpacking tents. It may be a tight squeeze for someone who's 6 feet 2 inches, but for everyone else it's plenty roomy. It's durable and easy to assemble, which is all we can really hope for from a tent. Again, perfect for Jarret who wants to be alone, and pretty good on a date because SnugPak is a super cute name that creates ample room for flirting!
