Where are all the possibilities for vacations for single men? There are so many stereotypical destinations for traveling couples that come to mind—like Paris or Venice. Family vacations are no trouble, either; think any of the best family vacation spots, like Orlando or Niagara Falls.
It’s too bad, then, that life doesn’t always leave us with convenient travel buddies. Break-ups happen, and nobody wants to invite some stranger on a dating app on a cross-country road trip. Family members aren’t always available, either—or maybe they’re the ones you’re trying to get away from for a while.
Regardless, fret not, single guys. Though they may not have been pounded into your perception of reality by the tourism industry, there are plenty of vacation options available to you.
As the capital of Thailand, Bangkok is brimming with cultural beauty, like the Grand Palace, where royalty once lived, or Wat Phra Kaew, home to the Emerald Buddha. There are huge shipping enters and floating markets, where locals sell food and trinkets off of boats on rivers. To travel within the city, you can roll above the crowd on the BTS Skyline or ride in a Tuk Tuk, an open, three-wheel vehicle reminiscent of old rickshaws.
Those, though, are daytime-oriented activities. Once night falls, the city’s go-go bars flip their lights on and stay open well into the night. These bars span entire blocks and are filled with alcohol, music, and dancers. The colors are vibrant and the ladies are beautiful, and you’re single, so you may as well have fun.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas has many claims to fame, but they all boil down to one main theme: Sin.
Personally, I think there’s no shame in cutting loose every now and then, but if you do, think of it this way: “What happens in Vegas…”
The desert oasis is the perfect place for uncommitted fun. It is as popular for vacations for single men as it is for women. Partying on the infamous Vegas Strip and gambling in its lavish casinos will certainly give you an opportunity to meet someone new.
Home to the Gangnam district—featured in the popular Psy song—Seoul makes it easy to forget your love life troubles. Multi-level clubs blast EDM and hip-hop, closing as late as 6 AM. After a couple nights of partying, you can understand why Psy dedicated a song to it.
Recovering from those long nights might not be the easiest task, but there is a peaceful side to Seoul. Historic landmarks can be found throughout the city, preserving Korea’s history, and local restaurants give you a chance to experience authentic Korean food.
South Beach, Miami
To be surrounded by beautiful people on beautiful beaches, visit South Beach in Miami, Florida. It’s a magnet for college students celebrating spring break, but with temperatures above 70-plus degrees Fahrenheit every month, it’s bikini season year round.
The beaches are lined with towering, high-end hotels, bars, and famous nightclubs such as the Basement or the Liv. With all the concerts, events, and pool parties, a single guy will have no problem finding people to socialize with.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
For more beautiful beaches, visit Brazil’s iconic city, Rio de Janeiro. As the second largest city in the country, there is no shortage of activities, and first on that list is watching the sunset on the beaches of Copacabana.
Other activities include scaling Sugarloaf mountain via cable car and visiting the 98-foot Christ the Redeemer statue, an impressive sight regardless of your religious beliefs.
If you can make it at a specific time of year, usually February or March, Rio de Janeiro holds what is widely considered the biggest festival in the world. The Carnival is a week-long event featuring dancing and parades.
Vacations for single men often involve a lot of partying, and Ibiza specializes in just that. Off the coast of Spain, Ibiza is literally an island paradise, where everyone is in a bathing suit and the clubs are never empty. If days at the beach aren’t good enough, the boat parties feature dancers, upbeat music, and swim stops to ensure you’re fully absorbed in the lively atmosphere. The island carters almost exclusively to rowdy party-goers, so if this is what you’re after, you can rest assured you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people.
It may not be the cheapest place in the world to visit, with its extravagant hotels and drink prices, but it guarantees beautiful days at the beach and wild nights at the clubs.
New York City, New York
New York brings quite a lot to the table. There’s never a moment where something is not happening—and part of that is from its sheer variety of activities. If you feel like having a peaceful, relaxing afternoon, you may choose to stroll through Central Park. If you feel like paying homage to history, you may visit the Statue of Liberty. If you feel like eating, you can walk five feet in pretty much any direction. Restaurants and eateries litter the entire city.
People watchers can stroll through Times Square or have a seat on the bleachers at Duffy Square. If you’d prefer an opportunity to interact and maybe meet someone new, there are plenty of bars catering to different demographics—like upscale, rooftop bars for young professionals or rustic, vintage-style bars for the laid-back types. Pick one you belong to and mingle with the crowd.
Nobody knows New York City like those who live there. Have a native New Yorker guide you through the packed city for an enhanced experience.
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is a unique, upbeat city in Louisiana, known more for its vibrant music scene and tasty food than wild nightlife. Thus, it might not be the first place to come to mind when you brainstorm vacations for single men.
In that case, the storm in your head failed you, because it’s a beautiful city with so many things to do and so many interesting people to meet. Longtime residents will tell you ghost stories and local musicians will play for you in intimate bar settings. If there’s anywhere to spark up a steamy romance, it’s here.
If not, getting a taste of iconic New Orleans food, such as gumbo or po-boys, will make you glad you’re single anyway. You won’t have to share a single bite.
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is a rich, beautiful destination for those interested in either the country’s history or beautiful architecture. Either way, you’ll get both with the towering, awe-inspiring castles and long-standing churches.
The city also has a reputation for its thermal baths, which are traditionally gorgeous and relaxing. If you’re looking for something more energetic, but still gorgeous, grab tickets to a spa bath party. These are held year-round and come with music and drinks and beautiful lights on the water.
Due to some international political unpleasantry—Trump's Cuba Policy, in layman's terms—Havana may be the most exclusive destination on this list.
If you can manage to get there, however, it certainly won’t feel that way. With locals who welcome you into their homes and hearts and serene beaches filled with palm trees, visiting Havana is like coming home to paradise. You’ll be surrounded by vintage cars and able to smoke those famous cigars in their country of origin.
Vacations for single men don’t have to be lonely excursions to a cabin far off in the mountains. Whether you are looking for a relationship or not, there are plenty of people to meet and memories to be made. Hopefully, this list helped you find the right destination for you.
