If you really want to see the world and experience everything there is beyond your hometown, then the only real way to do that is through long-term travel. This will allow you to spend more than enough time in various places so you’ll have a chance to see everything you want to see without having to rush through and only catch the big tourist attractions.
There are a number of different ways to approach long-term travel, but here are a few:
1. Become a digital nomad.
This is a fairly new term that applies to people who work online and therefore can freely travel the world and simply take their work with them. By becoming a digital nomad, you’ll be able to pay for all of your living expenses no matter where you are, just like you normally would if you were working a regular job in a brick-and-mortar company.
There are other advantages to being a digital nomad, as well, such as being able to pick your own hours and only work when you want to work. However, it can also mean a lot of time and work to build up to making enough money to support long-term travel plans. Most people that become digital nomads start off by working online in addition to their regular jobs until they make enough to quit.
2. Temporary Work
For some people, finding a well-paying job that’s easy to leave after a few years is the way to travel long-term. They work hard for a year or two, saving every extra penny until they have enough to go on the trip they want. Then, they’re able to enjoy their long-term trip without having to worry about working or money since they have enough saved.
While there are some obvious upsides to this, it can be hard to do, primarily because finding a job that pays well enough to save up money to travel in such a short period of time can be extremely difficult. It can also be hard for people to find another job when they return from their trip. If you choose this route, you have to make sure you’re willing to work nearly anywhere.
Once you're on the road you can try WOOFING. Your accommodation and meals are usually covered and sometimes you can also get a wage. This can help you stay on the road for longer.
3. Flexible Work
As technology advances, there are far more opportunities for people to pursue a career while being able to work remotely. This means that you could have a regular job and career that provides you the flexibility to travel long-term while continuing to work remotely. Unfortunately, these jobs can be difficult to find because most companies simply don’t have flexible options for their employees.
4. House Sitting
Another way to travel long-term which many people are now seeing the benefits of is by house sitting. While some house-sitting positions may pay you to keep an eye on their home and pets for them, others will let you stay in their home for free. If you can find enough paying positions, you can potentially travel the world while working as a house sitter. Find out what some of the best house sitting sites are.
However, for many people, there are only volunteer positions available, which means you’ll have to do some type of work on the side. This could mean being a digital nomad, finding temporary work, or getting flexible work. Either way, it works out well because you can pay significantly less while traveling since you don’t have to worry about finding or paying for housing.
Some homeowners leave their homes for an entire season and will need a long-term house sitter to take care of their home and pets. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to travel long-term and is hoping to spend some time in a certain area, as you can search for house-sitting opportunities based on location, date, and duration.
Using a mix of these ideas can help you extend your travels or keep you on the road indefinitely.
