“I gotta get out,” I thought to myself. “I can’t take living here!” “I wanna get out and see the world.” “There are so many beautiful places that I wanna see.” A million thoughts raced through my mind, and they wouldn’t stop... “I need something new!” “Something fresh!” “I wanna leave.”
These thoughts continued to swarm my head then all of a sudden they just—stopped.... “Ani! ANI! ANI ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?!” It was the voice of my mother that snapped me out of my trance. “HUH?! I’m sorry... I wasn’t paying attention...” I said apologetically. Mother rolled her eyes and started to repeat herself. After the long and tiresome conversation she told me that we were gonna drive to my oldest brother’s college to visit him. I was just excited to go for a drive, I know it’s kinda silly to be excited to go for a ride. But my life is pretty mundane, so this was really exciting for me! As soon as I got in the car I put my earbuds in, and listened to my music.
As the car pulled off I looked out the window, and I started to imagine me traveling. I went anywhere I wanted, I felt so free... I felt hopeful that one day I will actually get to do that. It was amazing. My imagination brought me to the many places I want to visit. It also brought me to my future, I got to see myself as the successful person I dream to be.
At the end of the ride I was brought back to reality “We’re here!” mom said “NOOOOOOO!” I thought to myself, I didn’t want the daydream to end. But I was happy to see my brother just as I missed the vivid colors I saw. The detailed sights, the realistic sounds, the— “MOM! SISTER!” My brother called to us with joy. “BROTHER!” I said excitedly and gave him a big hug, he greeted mom, and we went to a restaurant to eat and talk.
It was a fun time, but the thoughts wouldn’t escape my mind. When we got home it was time for me to head to bed, but I couldn’t sleep. There were too many thoughts, my brain was racing 1 million miles per second. I told myself I needed to forget about traveling, because it would distract me from living in the present. So I did... I dropped traveling to focus on my current reality, so I can reach my goals. As the years went on I lost hope that I would ever travel until I heard about Kcon. My friends told me about this convention that would take place in New York! I was so excited that I started to save my money and worked hard so I could be able to go, and it paid off!
I went to New York for the first time and it was AMAZING! The lights were absolutely breathtaking at night. I never wanted to leave. I will never forget it, because I was with my friends and I recorded everything haha! I look forward to traveling more, and possibly going further like Toronto! I can’t wait to see what summer 2019 has in store for me!
Thank you so much for reading! I know this was probably SUPER BORING, but I promise my next one will be better.
